News from Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

I am thankful for the opportunity to have spent October at home in Wake County -- connecting directly with my constituents, securing federal funding for our community, and more. While I am back in Washington, D.C., this week, I wanted to share a brief update about what I was up to over the past six weeks.

Hosting My Annual Veterans Day Briefing

Veterans and service members put their lives on the line to defend us, and they deserve our gratitude, respect, and honor. My office hosted our annual Veterans Briefing to provide an update on my work in Congress on behalf of the veterans community. Representatives from the local VA and other organizations also joined to give updates and provide important resources. I am so grateful for the more than 720,00 North Carolinians who have served in our Armed Forces, making North Carolina the third largest home to veterans in the United States. This Veterans Day, we recommitted ourselves to uplifting our veterans and their families. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Advocating for affordable housing

Congress must do more to address the rising cost of housing in Wake County. That's why I secured $1 million in funding to help support construction of the Multifamily Housing Development on Maynard Road in Cary. This important new development will expand affordable housing options in our local area.

Addressing the Needs of Our Seniors

All of our seniors deserve to retire with dignity. Starting in January, nearly 68 million Social Security beneficiaries will receive a 2.5 percent cost-of-living adjustment. It was great hosting a roundtable to address the pressing needs of North Carolina’s senior citizens, including strengthening Social Security and Medicare, and discussing the ongoing Medicare open enrollment period.

Investing in Local Law Enforcement

In October, I joined local police departments to announce $662,000 in federal funding that I secured for the Morrisville, Apex, and Knightdale Police Departments. These resources will give law enforcement officers the tools and support they need to do their jobs. Our communities are safer when our police departments have the funding they need to respond to incidents in a timely manner.

Securing funding for a new YMCA youth center

Every child deserves to grow up in a caring, supportive community. Last month, I joined state and community leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Alexander Jones Wright YMCA Youth Center. Earlier this year, I was proud to secure $1 million in federal funding for construction of this important new facility. The funding will help the YMCA significantly expand its offerings, from enhanced sports to wellness and leadership development programs, providing a safe and enriching environment for young people to thrive.
