Dear Friend, After a busy week in Wake County, I was back in Washington, D.C. this week — fighting for our state and our community. From working to restore our reproductive rights to taking action to protect our democracy, I am always committed to putting the people of Wake County first.  I want to take a moment to share more about my week in North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District. But first, spending time at home in Wake County wouldn’t be complete without grabbing some delicious BBQ. I made sure to get in line early to beat the busy lunch rush!

News from Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

After a busy week in Wake County, I was back in Washington, D.C. this week — fighting for our state and our community.

Fighting for fair maps

Last year, Republicans in the General Assembly passed egregiously gerrymandered maps -- and they did it behind closed doors with minimal public input. That's why I introduced the Redistricting Transparency and Accountability Act at a press conference in Raleigh last week. Joined by every member of the North Carolina Democratic congressional delegation, I am calling for a more transparent and fair redistricting process in North Carolina and nationwide.

Protecting reproductive rights

On the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, I hosted a roundtable with community leaders and health care providers to discuss the future of reproductive rights in North Carolina and across the country. I'm incredibly grateful for all of the outstanding health care professionals who serve the women of our state. While the future of abortion access in America is uncertain, I won't stop fighting to protect a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, free from government interference.

Hosting a senior town hall

I also had the chance to hear from so many Wake County constituents at my senior town hall in Wendell with Mayor Virginia Gray. I always love the opportunity to hear directly from the people of Wake County. From Social Security to Medicare, I will continue working to protect seniors' hard-earned benefits so older Americans can retire with dignity.

Stopping by businesses in Durham

Last week, I joined Congresswoman Valerie Foushee in Durham and stopped by a few exciting local businesses to learn more about their work to support North Carolina's innovation economy. From EV infrastructure development to life-saving medical research, the Research Triangle Park is home to world-renowned companies that are breaking new ground every day. I enjoyed learning more about the critical work of Kempower and Humacyte and hearing directly from their employees.

Visiting RTA's annual meeting

Before closing out the week, I stopped by the Regional Transportation Alliance's (RTA) annual meeting. From investing in RDU to bolstering high-speed rail, I'm committed to bringing federal dollars to transportation projects in Wake County and North Carolina. RTA has been a critical partner in expanding affordable and accessible transit across the Triangle.

It was great to be back in North Carolina, and I look forward to the next few weeks in Washington, fighting for the people of Wake County.
