News from Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

Last week was an historic week in North Carolina. After decades of partisan gridlock, the North Carolina General Assembly finally passed legislation to expand Medicaid in our state. That’s why I hosted a roundtable with some of our dedicated health care professionals to discuss our shared priorities -- from Medicaid expansion to the nursing shortage and more.

I want to share an update on our conversation and more about how we can work together to ensure every North Carolinian has access to the health care they need.

I am also interested in your thoughts. Please take the survey below.

Recovering from the pandemic

I'm grateful to have met with so many dedicated health care leaders to hear about lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and resources still needed to recover and prevent future pandemics. As a member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, I look forward to taking our discussion back to Washington with me and using it to inform my work.

Advocating for mental health resources

I have heard firsthand about the need to invest in mental health resources, especially for young people. Last year, I succeeded in securing $6 million in federal funding for WakeMed's new behavioral health hospital. This is an important step forward in ensuring those struggling can get the resources they need.

Supporting our seniors

I hear from Wake County residents every day about the burden of sky-rocketing health care costs, especially for seniors who live on a fixed income. That's why I fought to pass the Inflation Reduction Act to cap the cost of insulin and lower health care costs for seniors. From Medicare to Social Security, I'll always fight for our seniors so they can retire with dignity.

Investing in a strong workforce

The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated workforce shortages. As we recover from the pandemic, we need to give health care providers the resources needed to recruit and retain skilled workers. Last Congress, President Biden signed my bill into law which addresses the nationwide shortage of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs). I know there's still more work to do, and I'll keep working in Congress to strengthen our health care workforce.
