Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

Amidst the chaos and dysfunction in Washington, I remain focused on delivering for Wake County. Last week, I traveled across our community to hear about the issues that matter most to you and your family.

While this administration continues to create challenges and uncertainty for our country, I want to share an update with you on how I'm working for our community and fighting for positive change.

Honoring our Fallen Service Members

I spent a meaningful Memorial Day in Garner, Cary, and Rolesville honoring North Carolina’s fallen service members.

As the proud daughter of an Air Force veteran, it was a great personal honor to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This day reminds us to recommit to building an America worthy of their service.

Fighting Children's Hunger Amidst Cuts to Food Assistance

I held a roundtable with public servants, food banks, and nonprofits to discuss the impact of Republican cuts to food assistance and the challenge of fighting child hunger during the summer months.

For many young students, school meals provide a critical safety net that disappears when cafeterias close. At the very moment families are struggling with higher costs, the Republicans' Big Ugly Law has put more than 80,000 North Carolinians at risk of losing food assistance. I remain committed to fighting these harmful cuts and protecting programs that help children and families put food on the table.

Hearing from Small Businesses

Small business owners know the challenges that come with running a business — and that’s before rising costs from utilities, fuel, and tariffs. I spoke with entrepreneurs at the Wright Center about how they’re handling skyrocketing costs driven by the Trump administration's policies.

In Congress, I've been fighting for direct investments in our small businesses. To date, my office has helped Wake County small businesses secure more than $15 million in federal financing from the Small Business Administration (SBA). Please don’t hesitate to reach out if your small business needs assistance with the SBA.

Protecting Working Musicians

North Carolina’s independent music scene is a vital part of our culture, but too many working artists struggle to earn a living as streaming and AI platforms profit from their work while offering artists little power to negotiate fair compensation.

That’s why I introduced the Protect Working Musicians Act, which would allow independent artists to band together to negotiate fair compensation. Last week, I hosted Tift Merritt, Rissi Palmer, and other North Carolina musicians at The Pour House to perform original music and discuss these challenges.

Conducting Oversight at an ICE Processing Facility in Cary

I visited the ICE processing facility in Cary with Congresswoman Valerie Foushee. This building is where individuals are held before moving to a larger detention center.

This administration has repeatedly violated the civil rights and due process of immigrants — and even U.S. citizens. That's why it's critical we get answers about the status and conditions of immigrants being detained from our community. I will continue to investigate these conditions and conduct rigorous oversight.
