News from Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

I had the opportunity to spend a week at home in Wake County, and I wanted to take a moment to share some of what I have been up to. Thank you to everyone who shared your stories and insights with me this week. Your voices shape the work I do every day, and together we will keep fighting for a stronger, fairer North Carolina.

Take a look at last week’s recap below.

Standing up for North Carolina Businesses

Last week, I hosted a roundtable with local business owners and advocates to talk about President Trump's reckless tariffs. What I heard was deeply concerning: soaring costs, supply chain delays, and impossible choices for small businesses that are already stretched thin.

North Carolina has always been a great place to do business, but these tariffs are putting our progress in jeopardy. I will keep doing everything in my power to fight back against these destructive policies because North Carolinians deserve better and should not be paying the price for Trump’s extreme agenda.

Confronting Economic Threats

I met with local leaders to discuss the real and growing economic threats from the Trump administration's executive actions - especially to places like Research Triangle Park (RTP), where science, research, and innovation are a catalyst of our economy. From cutting funding for groundbreaking NIH research to shuttering a critical environmental research office, Trump is enacting a harmful agenda that is causing real damage to North Carolina’s economy.

I won't stop fighting to protect the good-paying jobs and vital work being done here in North Carolina.

Protecting our Social Security

I had the pleasure of speaking candidly with Social Security leaders in our area to discuss retirement security and what's at stake as President Trump continues to threaten our seniors’ hard-earned Social Security payments.

Social Security is a promise, and we are going to keep it. That means defending it against cuts and ensuring future generations can count on it, too.

Celebrating Service Academy Appointments

It is always inspiring to nominate young people eager to serve their country to our service academies. I had the great honor to celebrate students from our district who were appointed to our nation's prestigious military academies.

These students represent the very best of us. Their courage, discipline, and commitment to a cause greater than themselves make me so proud to represent them. I cannot wait to see all of the incredible things they'll accomplish.

Defending Medicaid Services

It was fantastic to meet with advocates from The Arc of North Carolina to discuss the critical role Medicaid plays in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Their message was clear: We must protect these services from harmful cuts.

I stand with people living with disabilities and those advocating for them as we keep fighting to make sure every North Carolinian gets the care they deserve.

Looking Forward for Wake County

I joined Congresswoman Valerie Foushee and Congressman Brad Knott, as well as county commissioners and other local leaders, to talk about the future of Wake County at a congressional delegation roundtable. In my first two terms, I secured over $36 million in federal funding for Wake County - including investments in affordable housing, public safety, and more.

But that progress is under threat. As the Trump administration continues to push policies that strip critical resources and programs from our communities, I remain committed to being your voice in Washington and making sure Wake County has the support it needs to thrive.
