Dear Friend,

I had a full week at home in Wake County last week, and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you. I had many opportunities to speak with North Carolinians about the issues they're facing, and what I can do to help. Together we will keep fighting for a stronger, fairer North Carolina.

Take a look at last week’s recap below.

Supporting Local Small Businesses

I had the opportunity to visit Little Blue Bakehouse in Raleigh, a kitchen incubator that's home to an incredible small food business. I joined bakers and nonprofit leaders to talk about how shifting federal policies are affecting North Carolina's entrepreneurs and small businesses.

We toured the kitchen, met with bakers and founders, and heard directly from business owners about the challenges they face. We talked about how tariffs are affecting their businesses, and how cuts to SNAP would devastate our community. These conversations made one thing clear: small businesses are essential to the Triangle's economic and community life, and I will keep fighting for policies that work for them.

Defending SNAP for North Carolina Families

At Barwell Road Elementary School in Raleigh, I joined local leaders, school nutrition staff, public health experts, and students to highlight the importance of federally funded child nutrition programs like SNAP.

With over two thirds of students at Barwell relying on free or reduced meals, cuts to SNAP would literally take food from these children. As Republicans in Congress try to roll back federal resources for hungry families, I am standing up for programs that support our children and families. Slashing food assistance while handing out tax breaks to the wealthy is simply wrong, and I will keep fighting back.

Standing Up for Families Who Rely on Medicaid

Medicaid provides people with peace of mind. Last week, I spoke with Brianna, a constituent who had health complications while delivering her twins. Medicaid covered part of her bills, and thankfully her family is healthy today.

Medicaid saves lives. It's shameful that Republicans are trying to cut health care for families like Brianna's. I will continue to fight to protect Medicaid for everyone who relies on it.

Honoring Memorial Day in Garner and Cary

On Memorial Day, I attended ceremonies in both Garner and Cary to honor North Carolinians who gave everything in service to our country.

At both events, I had the privilege of speaking with veterans and community members about what honoring our heroes means to them. I even had the opportunity to speak with a World War II veteran about his service, pictured below. Together, all of us paid our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Celebrating Raleigh's Greek Community

Once again, I was excited to attend Raleigh's annual Greek Festival, a celebration of culture, family, and community. The festival featured music, dancing, and incredible food --all made possible by the Greek-American community. Their contributions continue to enrich Raleigh and I'm always grateful to celebrate with them.
