Dear Friend,
While I am back in Washington, D.C. for votes this week, I wanted to take a moment to share more about what I was up to back home. I had the privilege of traveling across Wake County to meet with students, parents, educators, community leaders, and more this past week. At every stop, one thing was clear: we must continue to fight back against the Trump administration's ongoing attacks on our state and our community.

Last Thursday, I was grateful to meet with so many constituents at my town hall meeting in Southeast Raleigh. I had the chance to share an update on my work to counter the Trump administration’s harmful policies. Your voice is my guide in Washington, and I will continue pushing back against any effort that undermines our freedoms, whether it's attacks on healthcare, education, social security, or federal employees. Thanks so much to everyone who attended and shared their concerns. Make sure to subscribe to my newsletter so you can stay up to date on future town halls and other events.

During my visit to Hodge Road Magnet Elementary School, I saw firsthand the dedication of our teachers and school administrators who work tirelessly to educate our future leaders. Every child deserves access to a quality education, yet our schools are under attack as the Trump administration seeks to dismantle the Department of Education.
As the daughter of an early-childhood educator, I know how vital the Department is to the success of our children and young people. Schools here in Wake County depend on resources from the Department of Education to assist students with disabilities and low-income students, ensure young children do not go hungry, and so much more. I remain committed to fighting for stronger investments in our schools, ensuring teachers have the resources they need, and protecting public education from harmful political interference.

Last week, I was excited to host my second annual State of Women in Wake County event as we celebrate Women's History Month. So many remarkable women joined me and shared their thoughts on issues that women in our community are facing — from threats to retirement security, reproductive rights, and affordable child care. This month and every month, let's continue not only to lift up the trailblazing women who paved the way for us, but also recommit ourselves to ensuring that every woman and girl has the opportunity to succeed — without interference or discrimination.

During a visit to Wanda's Little Hands, an early child care center in Raleigh, I heard from parents, staff, and leaders who shared their concerns about the rising cost of child care, underscoring the urgent need for federal support. I will always stand in support of child care providers, parents, and families, even as the Trump administration tries to cut federal services and agencies that expand access and resources.

Last week, I convened an independent colleges roundtable, bringing together school leaders and administrators to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing independent institutions in our area. Our conversation covered key issues, including affordability, access to federal resources, and readiness in the workforce. I am committed to supporting Wake County’s fantastic independent colleges — institutions committed to educating our next generation of bright minds and innovative leaders.
