Dear Friend, My heart goes out to the community of Allen, Texas, where eight lives were tragically lost in yet another senseless mass shooting over the weekend. How many Americans must lose their lives before we finally say enough is enough? Gun violence has plagued our schools, workplaces, houses of worship, and public spaces for far too long. I’m fighting for common sense reforms that will significantly reduce the deadly toll of gun violence in America, including a ban on the sale of assault weapons.  I want to know where you stand on this critical issue. News from Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

My heart goes out to the community of Allen, Texas, where eight lives were tragically lost in yet another senseless mass shooting over the weekend.

It’s unacceptable for conservatives to continue to sit back and say that there’s nothing we can do to prevent these senseless tragedies. Assault weapons are designed for combat and have no place on our streets or in our communities. Again, the time has clearly come to ban the sale of these weapons of war.

Last summer, we took important steps forward to protect the American people by passing bipartisan, commonsense gun safety legislation for the first time in 30 years – a landmark measure that expanded background checks and increased funding for mental health resources. This bipartisan law is already saving lives, but we have so much more left to do.

Rep. Ross speaks about the importance of gun violence prevention legislation

For example, I am a proud cosponsor of the Protecting Our Kids Act. This bill will raise the minimum age to purchase semiautomatic rifles from 18 to 21, crack down on gun trafficking and straw purchases to get illegal guns off our streets, close the ghost gun loophole, and more. While the House passed this critical legislation last Congress, it unfortunately stalled in the Senate. I won’t stop fighting until we get the job gone.
