Dear Friend, I've been busy working in Washington, D.C. for the past few weeks, passing legislation, attending committee hearings, and meeting with constituents. While it’s been a productive summer in our nation’s capital, I’m looking forward to being back home during the month of August. But before that, I want to take a moment to share what I’ve been doing in Congress for the people of Wake County over the past several weeks.

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

I've been busy working in Washington, D.C. for the past few weeks, passing legislation, attending committee hearings, and meeting with constituents. While it’s been a productive summer in our nation’s capital, I’m looking forward to being back home during the month of August. But before that, I want to take a moment to share what I’ve been doing in Congress for the people of Wake County over the past several weeks.

Investing in Local Law Enforcement

To strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve, I introduced the bipartisan Strong Communities Act with Congressman Nathaniel Moran. The bill authorizes funds under the Community Oriented Policing Services grant program to be used to provide training for officers and recruits who agree to serve in law enforcement agencies in their own communities. When our law enforcement agencies reflect the people they serve, we achieve stronger results and citizens have greater confidence and faith in the officers sworn to protect them.

Protecting Student Loan Borrowers

Our nation is facing an unprecedented student debt crisis, and many young North Carolinians are burdened with an adverse credit history as a result. That's why I introduced the Clean Slate bills with Congresswomen Haley Stevens, Alma Adams, and Nikema Williams. These bills will remove records of default from student loan borrowers’ credit histories once they repay their loans, complete loan rehabilitation, or consolidate their loans. No one should be punished for seeking an education, but the high cost of learning has prevented too many of our promising young people from pursuing their dreams.

Supporting NC's Offshore Wind Industry

Offshore wind energy is one of the best resources in our toolbox to combat climate change and unleash the power of American clean energy. That’s why I was proud to introduce the NOW (Nonrestrictive Offshore Wind) Act. This bill will advance clean energy development in federal waters by repealing ties to fossil fuel leasing requirements that were mandated by last year’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Fighting for Documented Dreamers

Last week in a Judiciary Committee hearing, I had the chance to question DHS Secretary Mayorkas about what the Department of Homeland Security is doing to protect the 250,000+ Documented Dreamers living in the United States. I'm heartened that he shared my concern that these talented young people live on the brink of deportation because of flaws in our broken immigration system. These children of long-term visa holders are Americans in every way except on paper, and it’s essential that we provide them a pathway to stay in the only place they've ever called home.
