Last week, I offered an amendment to House Republicans' so-called Equal Representation Act to end the unjust, undemocratic practice of prison gerrymandering. Prison gerrymandering occurs because the Census counts incarcerated individuals in the prisons where they are held, rather than the communities they call home. This practice unfairly skews political representation when districts are drawn. Unfortunately, House Republicans refused to bring this important amendment to the floor for a vote.
Across the country, over a million incarcerated people are being used as political pawns to falsely increase the voting power of areas far from their home communities. Watch below as I spoke in support of the amendment on the House floor.
