Dear Friend, I always look forward to district work periods in August and September because it means spending more time in Wake County! These past weeks have been busy — meeting constituents in our community and traveling across North Carolina’s Second Congressional District. While I am back in Washington, D.C. for votes this week, I wanted to take a moment to share more about what I’ve been up to in Wake County.

News from Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

I always look forward to district work periods in August and September because it means spending more time in Wake County! These past weeks have been busy — meeting constituents in our community and traveling across North Carolina’s Second Congressional District. While I am back in Washington, D.C. for votes this week, I wanted to take a moment to share more about what I’ve been up to in Wake County.

Hosting a town hall meeting in Raleigh

We had a great turnout at my town hall in North Raleigh! It was so great to meet face-to-face with constituents and learn more about how I can best represent Wake County's priorities in Congress. Thanks so much to everyone who attended and shared their concerns about affordable housing, health care, and more. Make sure to subscribe to my newsletter so you can stay up to date on future town halls and other events.

Fighting for affordable child care

During my first term in Congress, I fought to pass the American Rescue Plan, which was a lifeline for so many Americans during the pandemic. I had the chance to visit Kiddie Academy of Brier Creek, just one of 4,000+ child care programs in North Carolina that will soon lose funding at the end of September when American Rescue Plan child care funding expires.

During a roundtable discussion, I heard from parents, staff, and leaders who shared their concerns with me, underscoring the urgent need for federal support. While I am back in Washington this month, I will keep fighting for urgently needed child care resources, including the permanent expansion of the Child Tax Credit.

Recognizing Black Business Month

August is Black Business Month, a time to recognize the many outstanding Black business leaders who call Wake County home. I was grateful to sit down with local Black business owners and learn more about how I can support their continued success in Congress. I will keep fighting for the federal resources that North Carolina’s innovative Black-owned businesses need to thrive.

Protecting reproductive freedom

On Reproductive Freedom Day of Action, I joined the ACLU of NC and North Carolina business leaders to discuss how abortion bans hurt our people and our economy. We must stop extreme policies like abortion bans that undermine our basic rights and deter businesses and people from choosing North Carolina as a place to live, work, study, and raise a family.

Recapping my trip to India

During August, I traveled to India and learned more about the critical relationship between our two democracies. After I got back to North Carolina, it was great to share an update on my trip with members of our community. Wake County is home to a vibrant Indian community, and I look forward to using what I learned in North Carolina and Congress.

Securing funding for public transportation

Every resident in Wake County should have access to quality, affordable public transportation. That's why I fought to secure $900,000 in federal funding to make critical safety and accessibility improvements to GoTriangle bus stops across Wake County. This crucial funding will ensure everyone in Wake County can get connected to all the wonderful opportunities our community has to offer.
