News from Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Representative First Last

Dear Friend,

It has been a busy few weeks in Washington and Wake County, and I wanted to take a moment to share what I’ve been working on for the people of North Carolina.

I know that concerns about the debt limit are front of mind for many Americans. Please know that I am committed to preventing a catastrophic default and fighting against extreme policies that will hurt American children and families.

Fighting for Reproductive Rights

Last week, North Carolina Republicans overrode Governor Cooper’s veto of their extreme 12-week abortion ban. Make no mistake, this radical bill will harm women and prevent doctors from doing their jobs. The North Carolina General Assembly has betrayed women and ignored the will of North Carolinians. But this fight isn't over.

I'm proud to stand against this radical abortion ban alongside my Democratic colleagues in the North Carolina congressional delegation.

Protecting Documented Dreamers

Over 250,000 Documented Dreamers – children of long-term visa holders – currently live on the brink of deportation because of flaws in our outdated immigration system. They represent the best of America and deserve to stay in the country they grew up in and call home. That's why I introduced bipartisan legislation alongside Senator Alex Padilla to protect Documented Dreamers from aging out of the system when they turn 21, forcing them to self-deport.

Now more than ever, Congress must enact comprehensive immigration reform that will meet North Carolina’s workforce needs, protect Dreamers, and ensure U.S. Customs and Border Protection has the modern tools and resources it needs.

Supporting Mental Health in Wake County

It was an honor to celebrate federal funding that I secured for the new WakeMed Mental Health and Well-Being Hospital during Mental Health Awareness Month. Since my days representing Wake County in the General Assembly, I’ve been working to secure support for this project. When completed, this new facility will provide 150 patient beds to help address growing mental health needs in Wake County. You can read more about this project here.

Raising the Debt Limit

Here is the bottom line: we must honor our past debts. If we don’t pay our bills, a default will threaten Social Security, health care, veterans, American families, and the global economy. It’s time for Republicans to do the right thing and raise the debt ceiling just as Congress has done for decades.

Honoring Our Veterans Ahead of Memorial Day

Ahead of Memorial Day, I attended the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus 25th Annual Women In Military Service Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. This weekend, we remember our fallen service members who gave everything to defend the values that make our country strong. I'm incredibly thankful for our brave service members, veterans, and their families for their service and sacrifice.
