Dear Friend,

I'm sure you have heard that President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. The Inflation Reduction Act takes historic steps to lower health care costs and will be a game changer for Wake County, especially for our seniors. I wanted to share some information on what this legislation means for you and your loved ones.

Capping insulin costs

The Inflation Reduction Act will cap the price of insulin at $35 for Medicare recipients. No senior should be forced to delay retirement because they worry that they will no longer be able to afford insulin.

Negotiating prescription drug prices

Starting in 2023, Medicare will be able to negotiate prices for high-cost drugs, allowing seniors in Wake County and across North Carolina to save money on basic medications. The bill also caps out-of-pocket spending on drugs at $2,000 per year for Americans on Medicare. The prices of prescription drugs have skyrocketed, forcing too many to choose between putting food on the table and getting the basic medications they need. The Inflation Reduction Act takes historic steps to remedy this issue.

Covering out-of-pocket costs of vaccines

Through provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, Medicare will soon cover the costs of vaccines under Medicare Part D, which will help tens of thousands of North Carolina seniors save money. Our seniors deserve to retire with dignity, and that’s why we must continue investing in crucial programs like Medicare.

Lowering health insurance premiums

The Inflation Reduction Act will make health care more affordable for millions of Americans by expanding key Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits that were set to expire this year. Improved by the American Rescue Plan, these tax credits have lowered health care costs for hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians – from small business owners to older Americans. About 135,000 more North Carolinians will have health insurance next year thanks to provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act that extend these credits.
