Dear Friend, I just spent a week back home in Wake County, announcing funding for affordable housing, honoring our Service Academy appointees, and more. Dear Friend,

I just spent a week back home in Wake County, announcing funding for affordable housing, honoring our Service Academy appointees, and more. But before I provide an update on my time in North Carolina, I want to express my deep concern about the recent Alabama State Supreme Court ruling that jeopardizes IVF access. I want to hear your thoughts on this critical issue. Please take the brief survey below.

As extremists continue to attack reproductive freedom in North Carolina and nationwide, I'll keep fighting to protect a woman's right to make her own health care decisions. Women and their families should be able to decide when or how to start or grow their families, free from government interference. I recently spoke about this important issue on the House floor. Announcing federal funding for affordable housing

Last month, President Biden signed into law government funding legislation which will deliver over $12 million in federal dollars back to our community. This includes $1 million for a new supportive housing project for youth transitioning out of the foster care system. Last week, I announced funding for this project with leadership from CASA and the Hope Center at Pullen (HCP). CASA and HCP will provide a safe, affordable place for young adults to call home and ensure they have the resources they need to grow and thrive. I'll keep working in Congress to ensure everyone in Wake County and beyond has access to an affordable place to live. Watch a video here to learn more!

Honoring Wake County's Service Academy appointees

Every year, I have the opportunity to nominate students to our nation's Service Academies. Last week, I had the honor of recognizing the 11 exceptional students who have bravely answered the call to serve our nation. We are immensely grateful for these students and those who participated in the nomination process.

Announcing the Congressional Art Competition winners

One of my favorite annual traditions is the Congressional Art Competition. I recently had the honor of announcing the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition at a reception in Wake County. This year we had nearly 100 submissions from students across our community!

I had a wonderful time meeting with all the student artists and seeing their fantastic artwork. Below is the first-place winner, "The Constellation Seamstress," by Isabel Chang, a senior from Cary Academy. To view all the entries please click here.

Meeting NASA Astronaut Christina Koch

This past week, I had the privilege of welcoming astronaut and North Carolina State University alum Christina Koch back to our state. On the upcoming Artemis II mission, Christina will become the first woman to fly around the moon. Christina is an inspiration to women and girls everywhere, showing us that not even the sky is the limit.

I spoke to Astronaut Christina Koch about my work as a member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee and our bipartisan work to secure robust funding for NASA that makes missions like this possible. I am committed to working to ensure North Carolina schools have the support they need to continue providing an outstanding education to the next generation of scientists, engineers, and astronauts.

Supporting Small Businesses in Wake County

This week is National Small Business Week! Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and the heart of our community. In Congress, I am proud to be a champion for Wake County small businesses, working to ensure that they always have the resources they need to grow and thrive.

While it was great to be back in North Carolina, I look forward to being in Washington these next few weeks, fighting for Wake County’s priorities.
