Dear Friend,  Last week, more than 40 young immigrants came to Washington D.C. from across the country to advocate for themselves and their families, including Fedora from Apex, pictured below. They, and 200,000 others, are referred to as “Documented Dreamers” because they come here legally with their parents who have visas, but when they turn 21 they “age out” of the system – usually because of the decades-long visa backlog – and face an impossible choice. They can either stay in the United States without legal status or “self-deport,” leaving families, friends, and jobs to return to countries they might barely remember.

Dear Friend,

Last week, more than 40 young immigrants came to Washington D.C. from across the country to advocate for themselves and their families, including Fedora from Apex, pictured below.

These Documented Dreamers are Americans in every respect except on paper, and there is nothing more American than petitioning your elected representatives to right a terrible wrong. These inspiring young people love America and believe in the promise of the American dream. They worked closely with me, Senator Alex Padilla, and other lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to craft legislation to end “aging out” and provide a pathway to permanent residency.

I introduced the America’s CHILDREN Act last year, and it has gained bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate. I’ll keep pushing until we can get this bill across the finish line because we need to give Documented Dreamers the chance to stay in the country they love and call home. They grow up in our communities, attend our schools, and learn alongside our children. They love our country and want to give back to the people and places that raised them.
