Dear Friend,

Communities across Western North Carolina are still recovering from Hurricane Helene - rebuilding homes, reopening businesses, and restoring lives. Now, when federal support is needed most, the administration is pulling back. The Trump administration has announced they will not continue covering 100% of the state’s spending on Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. That's unacceptable.

Do you believe the federal government should continue fully supporting Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in Western North Carolina?

Recently, FEMA denied North Carolina's request to maintain a 100% federal cost share for recovery efforts. That decision shifts the burden to state and local communities and slows down the recovery process that families depend on. President Trump visited Western North Carolina during his first week in office and pledged his support. Let’s be clear: it’s simply wrong for the federal government to turn its back now

That's why I joined the entire North Carolina congressional delegation in a bipartisan letter demanding $1.4 billion in federal recovery funds and urging the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to quickly approve our state's disaster recovery action plan. I also sent a letter strongly opposing a dangerous proposal to dismantle FEMA—an idea recently backed by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. Eliminating FEMA would cripple disaster response nationwide and leave communities without the support they need.

Turning away from Western North Carolina sends a message that some communities in America matter less. North Carolinians deserve better.
