Dear Friend, Before I give an update on my work in Washington, I want to hear your thoughts on an important issue. Last week, the Supreme Court struck down Alabama's racially gerrymandered congressional map and upheld Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. I spoke on the House floor to highlight this decision. The Supreme Court will soon rule on Moore v. Harper, a case that centers on a fringe legal theory and could jeopardize the future of free and fair elections.    I want to know where you stand on this critical issue. Please take the brief survey below.

Dear Friend,

Before I give an update on my work in Washington, I want to hear your thoughts on an important issue.

Enhancing our judicial system

The dangers of judge shopping, where a litigant files a suit in a division with a friendly judge, were on full display in Judge Kacsmaryk's unprecedented mifepristone ruling out of Texas. Our country was founded on the principle of blind and impartial justice. Judge shopping directly undermines that fundamental promise. It's unacceptable for plaintiffs to handpick who decides their lawsuit, especially when the ruling will have consequences for all Americans. That's why I introduced a bill with Senator Wyden to end judge shopping and uphold the integrity of our judicial system.

Welcoming NC Climatologist to Capitol Hill

It was such an honor to welcome North Carolina state climatologist Dr. Kathie Dello to the Environment Subcommittee hearing on weather and climate forecasting. June marks the start of Atlantic hurricane season, and North Carolina is no stranger to these disastrous storms. As the Ranking Member of the Environment Subcommittee, I'm committed to improving our weather and climate forecasting to ensure we are prepared for any natural disaster.

Fighting for comprehensive immigration reform

This is the bottom line: we have a broken immigration system. Rather than holding partisan hearings, Congress should be coming together to pursue commonsense solutions. I recently reintroduced a bipartisan, bicameral bill to protect Documented Dreamers - children of long-term visa holders - from aging out of the system. This is just one bipartisan solution Congress must pursue to help fix our broken immigration system.

Supporting U.S. diplomacy

This week, I had the chance to speak at the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition's Hill Day breakfast about the importance of investing in strong diplomacy and international aid. Strengthening funding for the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Peace Corps helps ensure the United States can continue to be a champion for freedom and democracy – both at home and abroad.
