Dear Friend,

As summer comes to a close, I had the opportunity to spend the last few weeks home in Wake County, connecting face-to-face with constituents. While I'm back in Washington for much of September, I want to take a moment to share an update with you on my time in North Carolina's 2nd Congressional District. From welcoming Secretary Yellen to Wake County to calling for robust funding for SNAP, I'm excited to share more about my week in Wake County.

Welcoming Secretary Yellen to Wake County

Two years ago, when Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, we voted to invest in our nation's future. Last week, I welcomed Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to Wake County to celebrate the success of this historic legislation at Wake Tech Community College. From providing tax credits for energy-efficient upgrades to bolstering clean energy manufacturing, the Inflation Reduction Act is already delivering for our people. I remain committed to building upon this progress and to keep working to combat the climate crisis.

Calling for robust SNAP funding in the Farm Bill

At the end of this month, the Farm Bill is set to expire. Unfortunately, the partisan version put forward by House Republicans is a non-starter. Their proposal would slash funding for SNAP by $30 billion over the next decade, leaving families in North Carolina and across the country without essential nutrition assistance. That’s why I visited the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC to discuss fully funding SNAP and other vital programs that North Carolinians depend on.

Fighting for our public school system

I firmly believe in the value of public education and am incredibly grateful for North Carolina teachers, staff, and educators. Unfortunately, many of our public schools are facing unprecedented challenges. That's why I was excited to meet with leaders and students at Beaverdam Elementary School. I loved spending time with our next generation of leaders and promise to always support our public school system in Congress.

During my visit, I discussed a bipartisan bill I introduced to expand access to free and reduced-price meals to support millions of children being raised by grandparents and other relatives. I will always fight for legislation like this that supports our students and schools.

Celebrating a NC veteran's 100th birthday

Last weekend, I had the privilege to attend North Carolina veteran Mr. James Lyle Bullock's 100th birthday celebration and present him with a flag flown over the Capitol in his honor. While we can never adequately thank him for his years of service to our nation, this is a small token of our gratitude. I had a great time meeting his entire family and celebrating this remarkable milestone!

Don’t miss me honoring Mr. Bullock on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives here.
