Dear Friend,

While I am voting in Washington this week, I always love being back home in North Carolina, meeting with constituents and traveling all over Wake County. I want to take a moment to share more about what I’ve been up to in the Second Congressional District.

Supporting Wake County Businesses

Wake County is home to so many innovative businesses, and it’s always great to hear more about the incredible work they're doing. I had a great time visiting the Thompson Family Farm. Farmers like the Thompsons are an essential part of our community and economy in North Carolina and beyond. I will keep supporting the success of our farms and farmers, especially as Congress works on the Farm Bill.

I also recently stopped by GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Zebulon site to see some of the cutting-edge medical research, development, and manufacturing they are doing. North Carolina is breaking new ground every day thanks to scientists, researchers, and leaders at companies like GSK.

As I travel around the Triangle, I consistently hear about the need for comprehensive immigration reform, especially to meet our growing workforce needs. That’s why I met with the American Business Immigration Coalition to discuss the role that immigrants play in strengthening North Carolina’s businesses, communities, and economy. I remain committed to advocating for comprehensive immigration reform that supports our economy and keeps families together.

Honoring our Veterans

Last week, I stopped at Raleigh National Cemetery to see the progress being made to address drainage issues that have caused flooding at the site. Our veterans and service members put their lives on the line to defend us, and they should be treated with the utmost respect and honor. It's unacceptable that their graves – a symbol of their service and sacrifice – have been damaged or destroyed.

Celebrating Congressional Art Competition Winners

Every year, I have the honor of hosting the Congressional Art Competition. I announced this year’s Second District Congressional Art Competition winner, Jordyn Williams, at a reception. Jordyn’s winning piece, “Fresh," will hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year. We had 40 high school students from across Wake County submit their artwork for the competition, and I was so impressed by the level of talent across our community. I encourage you to view all the submissions here. Thanks to everyone who participated!
